Michael Andrew Law debut First Ever A.I. Art Comic Book series
Artist Michael Andrew Law has recently announced the release of his debut comic series titled "Slow Punk". This digital comic book story is set in a Cyberpunk style of futuristic world and marks the first comic book ever published by the artist.
"Slow Punk" is a direct tribute to 1990s point and click video games, a genre that revolutionized PC gaming in the early days of personal computing. These games were characterized by their use of clickable objects and environments, as well as their intricate storylines and puzzles.
In addition to its tribute to video games, "Slow Punk" also pays homage to Slow Cinema, a film genre that emphasizes long takes and a meditative pace. Slow cinema is often associated with arthouse cinema and is known for its exploration of existential themes and human nature.
The story of "Slow Punk" follows a protagonist wandering through this "high tech, low life" Cyberpunk style futuristic world, investigating a dark secret about the high tech city while reconnecting with their humanity. The Cyberpunk genre is known for its dystopian themes and exploration of the impact of technology on society.
One of the most innovative aspects of "Slow Punk" is that it marks the first time that artist Michael Andrew Law has incorporated an AI image generator to create art for the comic book. This cutting-edge technology allows Law to free from the limitation of the traditional-digital art medium and create unique and visually striking images that further enhance the storytelling.
"Slow Punk" will be published on the artist's social media every day, and fans are encouraged to follow along to unfold the story. With each new installment, readers will be drawn further into the world of "Slow Punk" and its intricate plot.
In an interview, Michael Andrew Law spoke about his inspiration for the series, saying, "I wanted to create a story that combined my love for video games, slow cinema and Cyberpunk. 'Slow Punk' is a story with a unique pace and visually stunning comic book that I'm excited to share with the world."
As "Slow Punk" combines multiple genres and technologies, it is likely to appeal to a wide range of readers and fans of different mediums. The innovative use of AI image generator technology is a testament to Law's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of comics.
《Slow Punk:

Exquisite Taste and Rich: The artwork of collaboration and symbol
Solo Exhibition of Michael Andrew Law at Art Supermarket Gallery
Exhibition at Art Supermarket Gallery Thursday, 6th October until November.
Opening Reception: Thursday, 6 Oct, 6 pm - 9 pm
Venue: Art Supermarket 1/F, Asiarich Court, 5 Staunton Street, Soho, Hong Kong.
Contemporary is the generation of comments and reviews on the past, thus contemporary art is the best tool and platform. Michael Andrew Law (Born. Law Cheuk-Yui), one of the most original and passionate artists in Hong Kong, with his vibrant and recognisable paintings with the juxtaposition of their visual elements of popular culture are now exhibited in Art Supermarket. For Law, painting is a medium that works as a commentary on contemporary culture. Combining Pop Art, Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism, Law uses a humorous way to connect popular culture from low art to high art, commercial art to fine art, and past to present.
The paintings contain various cultural icons and symbolic value in historical art history — Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, David of Michelangelo, and Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, as well as popular icons in contemporary art history such as Jeff Koons’s balloon dog, KAWS, Andy Warhol’s Campbell soup, Yayoi Kusama’s pumpkins and Banksy’s Girl with Balloon, along with Hollywood stars and celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Hedy Lamarr. Law also incorporates everyday objects like advertising images of global brands such as McDonald's and Coca-Cola, famous food, comics, cartoon characters such as Mr Monopoly, Scrooge McDuck, Snoopy and Mickey Mouse, as well as expenditure trends including luxury brands, and reinterpreted NFT by hand paint the famous NFT art, and Millennials' culture such as taking selfies.
Law delicates to explore the symbols of Exquisite Taste and the Rich in our society through these visual elements, by creating a dialogue over the definition of Exquisite Taste in nowadays culture, also the visual elements representing Exquisite Taste and high class, and income and value through modern expression, etc. Whilst some might take the same symbols as meaningless, banal and superficial at the same instant. Besides paying homage to Lichtenstein's Ben-Day dots, Law uses seemingly unrelated images using cinematic techniques like montage and superimposition to create a harmonious, semi-abstract and yet playful scenery.
They are painted utilizing classical painting trained techniques and glazing techniques, and next to those are bright graffiti words. Law’s colourful dynamic line strokes created energy and motion effects for viewers, as well as used paint splatter to enrich images texture, presenting a certain level of art paint techniques. Law studied classical painting theories and techniques with Italian American classical painter Dan Anderson. His paintings are expressions of contrasts, of opposites that attract whether in symbology or artistic language. The reinterpretation of familiar Western Pop Art iconography, which is rendered through the mastery of classical painting makes Law a powerful contemporary storyteller.
This October, Law’s work will be installed at Jao Tsung-I Academy Museum. The exhibition is a series of paintings part of Law’s Art History Dialogues body of works.

Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe by Michael Andrew Law from his best-selling large art series ‘What If Julian Schnabel goes Pop Series’, shows the artist's fondness for the master painter Julian Schnabel. To create a dialogue with art history through referencing a lot of art history elements, glitter is represented by pigment powder, and the text could represent a rather modern expression. Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe (The Luncheon on the Grass) is an oil on canvas painting by Édouard Manet created in 1862.
Michael Andrew Law’s The Birth of Venus Contemporary Pop Paintings series is based on the visual of broken mirrors which resembles reflective images from shattered glass combined with colorful tangrams with the goal in the artist's mind to explore pop culture images from the pieces of a tangram. This painting referencing the famous Italian painting “The Birth of Venus (Nascita di Venere)” is a painting by the Italian artist Sandro Botticelli, probably made in the mid 1480s. It depicts the goddess Venus arriving at the shore after her birth, when she had emerged from the sea fully-grown (called Venus Anadyomene and often depicted in art). The painting is in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.

Ghostbusters epic painting exhibition to celebrate its 37 anniversary
Gallery Michael Andrew Law is pleased to present “Ghostbusters, In the Artist’s Eyes”, a solo exhibition to celebrate 37 years of genesis of Ghostbusters by Michael Andrew Law.
Ghostbusters, a franchise owned by Ghost Corps from Columbia Pictures, has been one of Michael Andrew Law's most favourite movies in his childhood. He will exhibit his new creation of a mural-size oil painting, as a pop art narration of the original Ghostbusters story.
In this exhibition, the artist explores forms of both commercial art and fine art, through a unique combination with the concept of contemporary pop, photo paintings and conceptualization of collage art.
He first designed and assembled all visual elements that fit the storytelling, and then rendered his subjects in a photo-painting manner, each figure is then enveloped within a colorful swell of shapes, color and form, such ensemble interventions are accomplished through the artist’s methodical process of hyperrealistic mark-making.
Utilizing a wide range of materials, his mixed media approach creates a hypnotic tension between the familiar and the fantastical.
Using acrylic and acrylic paint markers as the solid foundation upon which Michael Anderw Law’s portraits and figures manifest, thin layers of oil paint then layered upon the main subject in a more intuitive manner.
These saturated patterns move around the figure, further highlighting various gestures or the occasional curious glance peering out from behind the colorful structures.
Michael Andrew Law, currently signed to Parisian Gallery Singulart, is one of the top best sellers at Singulart. He is also one of Hong Kong's highest paid painters.
In conjunction with the show The Artist will put the entire the Making of progress of this epic large art on his Instagram feeds @michaelandrewlawartist
The exhibition will be held at Gallery Michael Andrew Law in Hong Kong, from 11 November 2021 to 27 February 2022

Gallery Michael Andrew Law

Lunch with Manet : If Julian Schnabel goes pop™
Studio Michael Andrew Law is pleased to present a new series of paintings by the artist.
In this series, Law is in dialogue with artists in the art history, such as Da Vinci, Modigliani, Freud, and Manet, among others.
Michael Andrew Law’s interpretation of Manet’s most famous masterpiece from Law’s What if Julian Schnabel goes Pop™ series are bright in your face as soon as you lay eyes on them.
Referencing Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe – originally titled Le Bain, is an original oil on canvas painting by Édouard Manet created in 1862 and 1863. It depicts a female nude and a scantily dressed female bather on a picnic with two fully dressed men in a rural setting. Rejected by the Salon jury of 1863, Manet seized the opportunity to exhibit this and two other paintings in the 1863 Salon des Refusés, where the painting sparked public notoriety and controversy.
Many artists had took this painting and made their own interpretation or re-imagine, such as Claude Monet's own version of Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe, Paul Cézanne painted the same theme in his Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe, Picasso made a couple of version of pastiche to the Manet work.
Backed by a brilliant colour hand made glitter, made up of a series of overlapping, differently brush strokes, splatters or drips, reconstructing a famous painting shining with glitter. Keywords and vocabularies related to the story of Manet has been placed carefully on this painting to connect this painting with art history to the same cultural whole.
The painterly style is playful and fun, and not the first time that artists have taken from popular culture and art history either to make a statement, or simple to have a good time.
Law, well known for his photorealism and pop art paintings, has added a twist to them here – instead of copying the representation of these famous images, Law has utilized these images to create a more dynamic picture.
These famous paintings represented in such expressive ways taking on a joy of their own – they remind us of the easygoing nature of art and the simple pleasures that we took from it. What if Julian Schnabel goes Pop™ is a way to recapture that feeling in art.
Revisiting a process used earlier in his career, Law designed directly on the computer with the reproductions of these famous images that he collected over the years, then printed on paper and glued onto canvases of various sizes. Then rendered in glitter, thick and dripping paint that almost completely obscures the original references.
Due to the current restrictions concerning the CORONA-virus, this open studio event is limited to private viewing by appointment only, One additional guest is allowed with each reservation, 30-minute appointment for 1 party of up to 2 people, email us to reserve your spot.
